Kill Floor Data Collection

The kill floor data collection uses a vision based tracking system to identify each hog. Each gambrel has a three character OCR code cut into the gambrel itself. Cameras capable of reading this code are positioned at strategic locations throughout the kill floor.

The tattoo of each hog is read and associated with the gambrel id. Additional data such as weights, grades and demerit information is collected throughout the process and associated to the gambrel ID.

The vision based identification system is extremely robust. There are no electronics on the gambrel itself, to get damaged in the extremely hostile environment of the kill floor. The cameras themselves are protected in special enclosures that are washdown capable.
