Matching & Pricing
Matching is the process of associating each hog, processed on the kill floor to a particular producer shipment so that it can be priced.
Matching is done based on the tattoo number. If the tattoos are correct and the shipment count is accurate then matching is a completely automatic process.
Unfortunately perfection is rare so the system includes tools to assist the procurement department with the matching process. Special algorithms exist for matching incorrect or incomplete tattoos.
Since the system knows at what time each shipment was released to the kill floor this time information is also used to assist the matching process.
Once hogs are matched they are available for pricing. Pricing is done automatically using the contract information. Hogs without a valid contract are flagged as exceptions, so that the problem can be corrected or the hogs can be priced manually.
